In the The income from the Paigah Jagir during the later years reached almost Rs. 52 lakh annually but the Army was reduced as there was no need to maintain a large army for the Nizam. In the nineteenth century the Paigah was divided into three branches of the family of the original lineage and were known as Paigahs of Sir Asman Jah, Sir Khursheed Jah and Sir Viqar-ul-Umara. Many of the Paigah nobles married the daughters of Nawab Afzal-ud-dauia Nizam V and therefore they were very close to the members of the royal family and were allowed to use ‘Turra’ (plume) on their ‘Dastar’. According to Henry Russell who was the British Resident in Hyderabad “when the Nizam is on his masnad the Minister stands or sits in front or on the side of him as he may desire, Shams ul Umara sits behind him holding a bunch of peacock feathers
