It gives me immense pleasure to inform all Hyderabadis that the “2011 Miss Universe” contestant representing India is our very own hyderabadi, Vasuki Sunkavali. Born on 17th August 1984 in Secunderabad is a law graduate. She comes from a educated family where her father is a graduate in mechanical engineering and her mother is a B.A degree holder in Public administration. She has a brother who has done his MBA.
Vasuki’s roots are very strongly rooted in our Hyderabad. She did her schooling from St. Ann’s High School and completed her college from the popular college “Villa Marie Degree College”. Simultaneously she played basketball at state and national level. Later on she moved to Pune to pursue her law course. Vasuki completed her L.L.B degree from the prestigious “Symbiosis International University” .While she was pursuing her course of Law she hold various positions like "President of the Human Rights Cell" and also Deputy Editor of the University Law Review. Later on she also went on to win the the Law School’s prize for “Most Diligent Mooter” and won the gold medal in the Inter-College Moot Court competition. In the graduation ceremony she was awarded the D.L. Mazumdar Medal for Overall Outstanding Performance and the “Mother Teresa Scholarship” for her incredible contribution in Human Rights .
After tasting success in India, Vasuki joined at New York University School of Law (NYU Law) to study International Law and Human Rights. Adding one more feather in her kitty was that she graduated with an LLM Degree as a recipient of the prestigious Dean’s Scholarship. Only after completing her studies she set her foot in Indian fashion industry where she walked the ramp as a model for many of India’s Top Designers. On July 15, 2011 Vasuki won the contest “ I Am She – Miss Universe India 2011” that was held in Mumbai. The rules of this contest is that winner of this contest directly makes it to the “Miss Universe” beauty contest.
So, now she will represent India in Miss Universe 2011 beauty pageant that is to held in Sao Palo , Brazil on September 12 ‘ 2011 . After looking into Vasuki Sunkavalli’s illustrious education profile and career in such a short span of her life , considering she is only 27 years old we all Indians especially the people of Hyderabad and rest of the Andhra Pradesh wish her good luck and also hope that she becomes one more Indian to win the title that was previously won by Sushmita sen and Lara Dutta.
