The Rotaractors of Rotatarct club of
Hitech Engineering
College organized a successful 5K marathon
to raise funds for educating the
underprivileged children on Nov 6th, 2011 at the People’s Plaza
on Necklace Road.
This marathon was named as Grethon –a green marathon as it was organized in the
green month of year.
This team of 30 members including Vamsi, Rohith, Sirisha, Srikanth and several
others have already explored some schools in the slum areas of Sanathnagar where
there is a lack of teachers and teaching conditions and infrastructure is bad.
They raised a good amount of money for the noble cause, Rs. 4.5 lakhs. They are
looking at hiring Private teachers at Rs.7,000/mth and also buying books for the
children pursing their primary as well as secondary school education. This is
very critical phase in a child’s development and the ability to realize their
potential.
This was the first major event for this club. It was impressive for the
coordination and details these young minds had covered incl. Police permission,
logistics, marketing the site on web portals, newspapers, etc. It was refreshing
to see that they made sure that the premises was cleaned up after the event.

Rotaract is a Rotary sponsored service club for young men and ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or
university based and they re sponsored by a local Rotary Club. This makes them
true partners in service and key members of the family of Rotary as one of Rotary’s most significant and fastest growing service programs with more
than 8400 clubs in about 170 counties and geographical areas, Rotaract has
become a worldwide phenomenon.
How does it work ?
All Rotaract efforts begin at the local grassroots level with members addressing
their communities physical and social needs while promoting international
understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service
Rotaract club of Hitech was poposed on 23rd August 2008 and received
Charter certificate on 23 December from Rotary Internation (USA), the club is
sponsored by Rotary club of Hyderabad Megacity.
